The Beast Within (Penguin pocket classics)

Author(s): Émile Zola

Classics

'The train ran on without a driver, on and on, like some mindless, unseeing beast...'

One of Zola's darkest and most violent works - a tense thriller of political corruption and a graphic exploration of the criminal mind, as a murder is committed on the new railways of the Second Empire.

A new series of twenty distinctive, unforgettable Penguin Classics in a beautiful new design and pocket-sized format, with coloured jackets echoing Penguin's original covers.

Product Information

Emile Zola, born in 1840, was the founder of the Naturalist movement in French literature. His novel Therese Raquin caused a scandal on publication and was followed by his brilliant Rougon-Macquart cycle (1871-1893), a series of twenty novels focussed on one family.
