Bliss It Was (Waiheke Island Thriller trilogy #1)

Author(s): Steve Cottrell

Crime | NZ Fiction

Bliss it Was is the debut novel of local author Steve Cottrell (Kāti Mamoe, Kāi Tahu)

This gritty, quirky novel is set largely on Waiheke Island, in the Hauraki Gulf, Auckland. The horrific encounter that sets the story in motion is the last thing anyone would expect in this beautiful and normally tranquil place.

"...but along with the violence - and there's not that much of it - there is pathos, humour, a love story, and a range of fascinating characters.

My favourite is Anahera, a clever, strong and sassy young Māori woman, who comes to the rescue in more ways than one. I've found the characters, the Waiheke setting and the whole writing process so compelling that this is the first novel in what will be a trilogy. The second book is already written and ready for print." Steve Cottrell

"A punchy, fast-paced and occasionally gory thriller... The author knows how to take the reader into a scene, keep the pace up, and create characters it's easy to care about... His ripping yarn has everything - piles of bodies, bent coppers, courtroom drama, romance, mercenaries, the 'Ndrangheta (Italian mafia)... A satisfyingly complex page-turner." Jenny Nicholls.
