As a child in the 1960s, Aminatta Forna saw bricks thrown through the windows of her Abderdeen home - but her subsequent childhood in Sierra Leone was idyllic. After her father resigned as deputy prime minister to protest a Government move, his family fled back to Britain and he was hanged for treason. Forna is a journalist, broadcaster and TV presenter. She has won several awards and one of her programmes on foreign adoption promoted a change in the law. She has previously contributed to ItzinâÂÂs Pornography: Women, Violence and Civil Liberties (OUP) and Conversations with Maya Angelou (Virago).
