Description

Cam Stokes was a cop for 18 years and worked on the Auckland Drug Squad and the Organised Crime Unit. He was the detective sergeant in charge of the Auckland Motorcycle Gang Unit when he left the police force in 2004. Now Cam Stokes is an expert on illegal drugs. His company, DRUGSCENE, delivers training on the dangers of methamphetamine and other drugs.
Great travel is about participating. Watching Brazilians samba isnÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂt the same as kicking off your shoes and shaking your booty until your hips hurt. Stripping away the mystique of independent travel, Roam is inspiring, funny and incredibly useful. In a celebration of the artistry of travel - the capricious mix of strange, new cultures and mind-numbingly boring delays - Roam breaks it down into a series of laugh-out-loud stories. From riding back to front in a camel race to removing lice from oneÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂs nether regions, Dean Starnes shows how to live from a backpack with panache. Brimming with humour, stunning photographs and battle-tested tips, Roam will inspire you to pack your bag and take to the road.

Author description

With incurably itchy feet Dean Starnes has been travelling for fifteen years and, after 75 countries, five continents and three backpacks, he's still going strong. A survivor of three bus crashes, one shipwreck and malaria, he's surprisingly resilient. Dean has co-authored Lonely Planet guide books and contributed to the travel anthology Flightless. When he's not travelling, Dean lives in Auckland with his wife, who wonders where they'll hang all the souvenirs.
