Opening Little Boxes

Author(s): Kees Lodder, Cathy Casey, Manuela Bertão, Alex Casey

Short Stories

Opening Little Boxes is a series of reflections by three generations of a family living in one home during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Each chapter is written from the perspective of a different family member (including two pets). The characters reveal their inner concerns and feelings and find their way to wisdom and love.

The authors—two medical doctors, a city councillor, and a writer—hope Opening Little Boxes will spark discussions about the things that matter most in life.

Product Information

"Opening Little Boxes explores a range of reflections from characters across generations, and from their pets. While those who speak through this book are fictional, we may recognise ourselves or those close to us in them as they come to terms with this enormous disruption to life as we knew it." — Rt Hon Helen Clark, Former Prime Minister of New Zealand

"A gem to read, especially in the lockdown era. Reading, I got to inhabit the consciousness of seven beautiful members of a family and experienced how it is to be an insecure young child, a caring dog, an anxious mother, and even a wise grandmother. This jewel of a book is a meditation—grounding and heartwarming, opening to a rainbow of feelings and thoughts full of love.”" — Tony Fernando MD, psychiatrist and award-winning author of journal articles on mindfulness and compassion in medicine
