Saving the Ranges is the history of the Waitakere Ranges Protection Society Inc since it's beginning 40 years ago. The Society has been an environmental nursery for many and has been associated with an inspirational group of empowered people It began with a small and passionate group of activits who campaigned against a proposed rubbish tip in the Te Henga Valley, Waitakeres and documents the trials and tribulations of saving the Ranges from developers and culminating in the Waitakere Ranges Heritage Act of 2008. However, the fight to save the Ranges still goes on with the increase in tourism, Kauri Die Back and opossum and other pests and diseases taking their toll.
