Thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed when more than 14,000 earthquakes and aftershocks hit Canterbury following the devastating quakes in September 2010 and February 2011. For many homeowners the task of repairing or rebuilding their home has only just begun, or worse, is still to come. But amidst the continuing upheaval, progress has been made - as the homes featured in this book attest. Ranging from restored heritage homes to brand-new contemporary dwellings on recovered sites, they are living spaces made beautiful once again. As well as providing their owners with renewed comfort and a sense of security, they offer a glimpse of the innovative responses that have emerged as people piece their homes back together or build afresh.

Author description

Lucinda Diack is passionate about innovative design solutions, and has been constantly inspired by the way in which Kiwis build, live in and craft their homes. After eight years working in the design sector and for home and lifestyle magazines, she now lives with her husband Nic in a country refuge in North Canterbury - a slice of paradise in which to write stories about people and their homes. She is the author of two books: Converted Houses and Rebuilt: Inspiring Recovery Stories from Quake-damaged Canterbury Homes.
