Christchurch the Transitional City Part IV

Author(s): Barnaby Bennett et al

NZ Non-Fiction

This book is a collection of 153 temporary and transitional projects that have occurred in Christchurch since September 2010. It illustrates a city dealing with the tragic loss of people, the massive changes to its urban fabric that is losing 80% of its central city buildings and over 4000 residential houses, and the hopes, frustrations, and dreams that all this entails. The book profiles many types of projects including: acts of protest, improvised community constructions, artworks both legal and improvised, bars, cafes, temporary stadiums and shopping centres, and much much more. It is the first book to compile these important projects, and is an historically important document. It is also something of a how-to manual that will contribute to the intelligent and creative rediscovery of Christchurch City.
