For lesbian sportswomen, playing sport in New Zealand has changed throughout the years. Lesbian sportwomen and their supporters ahve faced discrimination and difficulties, yet women love sport, they love playing sport, and lesbian sportswomen continue to challenge themselves to play at their best.
Profiles of some determined and often brave and fearless women who have championed women's sports in teh early 1900s, and who are inspirational themselves are presented here. From Pearl Howard Dawson 1887 to 1987, who received the British Empire Medal in 1969, through to the Gay Games and women's rugby and individual sports of the new century.
