DescriptionSjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease that causes dryness of the eyes, mouth, nose, and other mucus membranes, and afflicts over half a million people in the UK and nearly 4 million Americans. While it is usually a mild process for which most patients use only symptomatic therapy, several hundred thousand people with Sjogren's also have rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus, or scleroderma. Another equally large group also has a condition know as primary Sjogren's whereby constitutional symptoms (e.g. swollen glands, fatigue, fevers, weight loss), organ manifestations (e.g. heart, lung, kidney, liver), or even lymphoma may occur.
