|Author:||Kate T. Parker|
A celebration of strong girls in photographs. These remarkable images of girls range from yogis to skateboarders to cancer survivors to valedictorians, and prove that female strength is more than just muscles - it's being confident, creative, determined, fearless, independent, joyful, kind, resilient, and wild.
-Femtastic... A powerful book.- --FamilyCircle Magazine -Strong Is The New Pretty is the definition of girl power.- --Buzzfeed -A lovely exploration filled with exquisite images of girls and quotes about what makes them strong, beautiful, and confident ... stunning.- --School Library Journal -Positively moving and totally glorious.- --Booklist -This is an amazing celebration of the strength, confidence, and energy of girls and young women who are just beginning to understand their power in the world. Imagine how much more we can all accomplish when girls honor what their bodies can do and focus on their dreams rather than fixate on what they look like and obsess about their shape.- --Ann Shoket, former editor in chief of Seventeen magazine and author of The Big Life -Within the pages of Strong Is the New Pretty, we see girls as they naturally are and what they want and demand the world to see. They are inspiring, wise, and grounded in the certainty that they will take the world by storm.- --Rosalind Wiseman, author of Queen Bees & Wannabes and the Owning Up curriculum
Kate T. Parker is a mother, wife, former collegiate soccer player, Ironman, and professional photographer who shoots both fine art and commercial work around Atlanta, Georgia. Her 'Strong Is the New Pretty' photo series-featuring her daughters and their friends being messy, loud, creative, busy, funny, and strong-went viral in 2015, and has since led to collaborations with brands like Athleta, Kellogg's, Oxygen, and Girls on the Run, among others. The project also inspired Kate to launch a nonprofit, StrongIstheNewPretty.org, which will provide scholarships and athletic and academic equipment and materials to disadvantaged girls. When she's not capturing powerful images, she can be found coaching the soccer teams of her two young girls-with a whistle and a camera around her neck.
