The Mindful Way through Anxiety: Break Free from Chronic Worry and Reclaim Your Life
Author(s): Susan M. Orsillo and Lizabeth Roemer
Anxiety constrains the lives of millions, leaving sufferers exhausted, stressed, and overwhelmed. And the things most people do to try to feel better--avoiding feared situations, pushing worry out of mind--only make the problem worse.
Leading psychologists Susan M. Orsillo and Lizabeth Roemer provide a powerful new alternative: they help readers fundamentally change their relationship to anxiety. This book's clinically tested mindfulness practices are specifically tailored for anxiety in its many forms. With clarity and compassion, the authors describe how to gain awareness of anxious feelings without letting them escalate; reap the benefits for emotional and physical well-being; and open life to inspiring new possibilities. Loads of stories, self-quizzes, and step-by-step exercises all enhance the user friendliness of this expertly crafted approach.
'By far the most sophisticated and engaging guide I have seen on mindfulness and anxiety. This book is a gem. Two of the field's most knowledgeable and creative experts skillfully take you on a journey into the hidden corners of your anxious mind. With a seamless blend of interesting stories, state-of-the-art research, and exercises, this book leads you step by step toward a fuller, more meaningful life. It is an excellent resource for anyone who seeks a path to freedom from anxiety and stress.'--Christopher K. Germer, PhD, author of The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion
"Potentially of great benefit to anyone suffering from anxiety in this era of relentless drivenness, social isolation, stress, and perpetual digital distraction.
The authors' wise counsel based on their own clinical experience and research, coupled with vivid stories of their own and other people's lives, provide compelling evidence for why mindfulness is so important in reclaiming your life, and effective guidance in how to go about it in meaningful and very practical ways."--Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, coauthor of The Mindful Way Through Depression
"Mindfulness, acceptance, and values are transforming the treatment of anxiety, and the work of Orsillo and Roemer is central to this shift in perspective. Anxiety is an emotion that begs us to mishandle it through worry and rumination. In a careful, step-by-step fashion, the book shows readers how to use mindfulness and values to break free from the grip of anxiety and to move forward now toward the kinds of lives they want to live."--Steven C. Hayes, PhD, Foundation Professor of Psychology, University of Nevada, Reno
